Plan your trip for the best experience

The lodge is very remote and there are no roads directly to us, so being prepared for how to get to us and what to bring will ensure that you get the most out of your trip. Below are some tips but if you have any questions feel free to contact us.

How to get here

We are located in the heart of Barkley Sound and you cannot drive to our lodge so here are a few ways to get to us:

If you are part of a group of 6-10 people your pick up and drop off in Port Alberni are included. You just need to get to the pick-up point. Click here to get directions.

If you are less than 5 people then these are your options: You can join us by taking the local ferry ( passengers and freight only). They leave in the morning and we will connect with them to pick you up when they are close to us. There is also an option to fly to us by float plane, either directly from YVR (Vancouver airport) or from Port Alberni. You are responsible for the reservations and costs of the local ferry or the float plane. On some occassions you can have a pick up or drop off with our own boat if our schedule allows.

What to Bring

You are going to enjoy the remoteness of our lodge. However that means you want to make sure you have some basic things with you. DIVE GEAR!  Duh of course. Please limit your gear. Bring it in soft stowable bags and sort dry clothing from wet gear in case of a few rain drops. You can use our tanks and weights but if you want to bring your own tanks you can. You need to bring 2 tanks and make sure they are full! Other than dive gear, bring land cameras as we try to stop for photo opps between or after dives. Always bring some wind and rain resistant clothing. If you have a favourite alcoholic beverage you should bring it as we do not sell alchohol. Our lodge is no smoking but you can smoke outside away from other guests. We have outlets for CPAP machines in every room and bedding is provided. If you have any questions take a look at our FAQ file or feel free to contact us.

Booking, Payment, Cancellation

You can book your stay with us in a few ways. If you come through an organized trip via a dive store or dive club all booking-, payment- and cancellation questions are dealt with through the organizer. Small groups or individual divers can book directly with us. We take a non-refundable downpayment at the time of booking and we have a payment schedule for the remainder. Click here for detailed booking, payment and cancellation information. IMPORTANT: if you have any food restrictions or allegies inform the person with whom you book so we can adjust to that. For payments we have a number of options. We will advise you of the prefered ones at the time of booking depending on where you are located. We accept e-interac payments (Canada only), bank tranfers as well as Visa and Master card. Canadian and US cheques are okay as long a they get to us well in advance. We do NOT accept Paypal type payments or American express. In the unlikely case you have to cancel, you will need to cancel with the organization you initially booked through. Please read all the conditions that are part of your initial invoice carefully and contact us in case you have questions.

FAQ

It is impossible for us to put every detail on our website or anticipate every question you may have. BUT we are happy to answer them. If you click here you will get a FAQ pdf file that holds a wealth of information from “do you provide bedding?”  to “I have a DIN regulator can I bring that?”.  Chances are you will find most of your questions answered, but if not, contact us and we will be happy to answer them. Given the continued Covid situation check the “news” link at the top of the page to see what the current situation /requirements are. These are fluid and change so make sure you are aware of them.

Amenities

All Bookings Include…

Kayaks

After diving you can jump in a kayak and explore the bay. Bears, seals and eagles are not uncommon to see and sometimes you may even have a humback whale nearby.

Hot tub

We have a hot tub (which is a soak tub) to enjoy a drink in after diving. It has a view of the bay so you can relax without missing any wildlife action.  UPDATE:  due to the continued Covid situation and the way it spreads (airborn droplets) the hot tub is currently not operational.

Camera room

We have a dedicated room for camera gear. It has tables to facilitate setting up your cameras and charging outlets.  It can also be used by instructors to teach courses. If you need any help let us know.
